This week in Pensacola: Sept 18 – 24

Six things worth leaving the house for, plus the extras that did not fit on the story.

Gallery Night: Viva Pensacola — downtown, Palafox corridor. 5 to 9 PM. The third-Friday street party is also the Latino Festival this month. Sonora Dinamita headlines, with food and music from Mexico, Colombia, Panama and Peru, plus the usual art vendors. The footprint is shifted for the Palafox construction, so look at the event map on gallerynightpensacola.org before you pick a parking spot.

Bands on the Blackwater — Jernigan’s Landing, Milton Riverwalk. 7 to 9 PM. Hired Guns is playing. The city’s free Friday riverfront series is back for the fall, and you can pull up by boat.

The Girl on the Train opens — Pensacola Little Theatre, 400 S. Jefferson. Opening weekend of the stage version of the thriller, running through Sept 27. Ticketed. Curtain times are on the theatre’s site.

Gulf Coast Summer Fest, Jazz Edition — Community Maritime Park, downtown. Gates at 1, music from 2 each day. Tenth year. Marcus Miller, Boney James, Rick Braun, Jeff Lorber Fusion, Richard Elliot and more across three days. Ticketed and 18 and up. Single-day and three-day passes are on Ticketmaster and AXS. Lawn chairs and coolers are allowed, which is not nothing for a September afternoon on that lawn.

Vettes at the Beach — Casino Beach, under the Pensacola Beach Ball water tower. 8 AM to about 2:30 PM. Twenty-third year. Two hundred-plus Corvettes, C1 through C8, lined up on the sand with the National Corvette Museum on site. Free to walk through. Trophies and the raffle wrap up around 2:30.

Palafox Market — Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza, north end of Palafox. 8 AM to 2 PM. Produce, food, art, plants. Free to walk through.

UWF Argonauts vs. Austin Peay — Pen Air Field, UWF campus. Kickoff at 6, gates around 5. Family Weekend, and the only home game this month in the program’s first FCS season. Tickets from $39.

White Tie Rock Ensemble: Rock The 80’s — Pensacola Bay Center, 201 E. Gregory. Doors 6:30, show 7:30. The local symphonic-rock group’s annual arena show, this year an all-80s set. Ticketed.

Brick Convention — Building 1, Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds, 6655 Mobile Hwy. Two sessions a day, 10 to 1 and 2 to 5, and the ticket is per session. $15 online, $20 at the door, 2 and under free. Big LEGO displays, building zones and guests from LEGO Masters. Easiest kid pick of the week.

Blue Angels practice — Naval Aviation Museum flight line, NAS Pensacola. Jets at 10:30 AM, about 55 minutes in the air. Free, and so is the museum. Access is through the west gate starting at 9, and the flight line viewing area opens at 9:30. No autograph session this date. It is the last hometown practice on the September schedule, so if you have been meaning to go, this is the one.

Bands on the Beach — Gulfside Pavilion, Casino Beach. 7 to 9 PM. Knee Deep Band is playing: Motown, classic rock, R&B, some country. Free. No pets, no glass, bring a chair.

Escambia school rezoning, first public meeting — the county starts the process that decides which school every address is zoned to, and closing or combining schools is on the table. Details on the district’s site. Not an event you go to for fun, but if you own or are shopping here it is the one to know about this week.

One heads up for next week: the Pensacola Seafood Festival is Sept 25–27 at Seville Square. Friday 11 to 11, Saturday 10 to 11, Sunday 11 to 5. Free.
