This week in Pensacola: Sept 11 – 17

Six days of stuff worth leaving the house for, plus a few extras that did not fit on the story.

Cinemas in the Sand — Gulfside Pavilion, Pensacola Beach. Starts at sunset. They put Hoppers up on a big screen with the Gulf behind it. Free. Bring a blanket and get out there before dark, because the good spots go early.

Blue Wahoos vs. Biloxi — Blue Wahoos Stadium, downtown. 6:05 PM. Giveaway Friday.

Shorty’s Safe Haven Rodeo — Escambia County Equestrian Center, 7750 Mobile Hwy. Gates at 5, rodeo at 7. $18 online, $20 at the gate, kids 3 and under free. Runs Saturday too.

Juana Good Time Regatta kicks off — Juana’s Pagodas, 1451 Navarre Beach Causeway. The Wish for Wind party runs 6 to 8 PM. Racing starts Saturday.

Flea Across Florida — along Highway 90, 8 AM to 4 PM both days. This is the longest yard sale in the state and it only happens twice a year, running from Pensacola all the way east. Bring cash. Go early.

Palafox Market — Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza, north end of Palafox. Saturday mornings. Produce, food, art, plants. Free to walk through.

Blue Wahoos Fireworks Night — 6:05 PM. This is the last fireworks night of the season, and afterward they run the Diamond Dig where fans dig on the field for a token you trade in for a real diamond.

Juana Good Time Regatta, distance races — Navarre Beach. Racing starts around 11:30 AM, with Hobie Wave beach racing right after. It is the 36th year of this thing and you can watch the whole day from the sand for nothing.

Bulls on the Beach — Flora-Bama, Perdido Key. Gates at 6, riding at 8. 90s Country Night. Ticketed, and pricing varies a lot by seat, so check Flora-Bama before you go.

Wahoos final regular-season home game — 1:05 PM. Military Family Sunday, and kids can run the bases after the last out.

Regatta wraps up — buoy and triangle racing at 11 AM, awards party after.

Blue Angels practice — Naval Aviation Museum flight line, NAS Pensacola. Around 10:30 AM, lasts about 45 minutes. Free, and so is the museum. Access is through the west gate starting at 9, and the flight line viewing area opens at 9:30. If you have never done it, do it once.

Bands on the Beach — Gulfside Pavilion, 7 to 9 PM. Count the Years is playing. Free. No pets, no glass, bring a chair.

Blue Wahoos playoff game — the Wahoos clinched, and Division Series Game 1 is at home against Biloxi. First pitch had not been posted when I put this together, so check the schedule before you head down.

Josh Turner at the Saenger — 118 S. Palafox, 7:30 PM. Ticketed.

One heads up for next week: Bands on the Blackwater starts back up in downtown Milton on Sept 18, Friday nights 7 to 9 at Jernigan’s Landing. Free, and you can pull up by boat.
